Toonaangevend
Unique, progressive and leading: the largest solar park in the world at a controlled airport is at Groningen Airport Eelde. The construction of the solar farm on our middle ground is a unique project. This is the first time in the world that a solar park has been realized in this way.
On the middle ground of Groningen Airport Eelde a solar park has been realized by GroenLeven. The solar park is located between the runway, taxiway and apron. A total of 63,196 solar panels have been installed, providing a total capacity of 21.9 MW. This is an equivalent of approximately 6,200 households.
Vergroening van de luchthaven
The presence of the solar park is an important step in the further greening of the airport. We think it is important to follow the latest developments in this field and to see how we can contribute to it. We are looking at various possibilities, for example, generating synthetic kerosene or facilitating the electrification of small aviation in the future. The solar park is therefore not a stand-alone project, but fits in with a broader objective of Groningen Airport Eelde regarding sustainability.
The solar park at Groningen Airport Eelde is unique. Partly due to the fact that there are so many specific conditions for realization. After all, an airport has to deal with various security requirements. But it also means that the project serves as a model for many other sites and projects. These include other airports, but also, for example, application in sectors that, like an airport, have high or special security requirements. For example, the chemical sector.
Overkapte doorgang
A covered passageway has been constructed from the terminal to the platform. So that passengers can walk dry to and from their aircraft. Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the passageway. With the solar panels placed on the passage Groningen Airport Eelde will soon be able to generate its own electricity. This makes the airport self-sufficient in its electricity consumption.
